What kind of dog is that?
Mom gets to meet all kinds of dogs on her dog show adventures. This is one we didn't know (since it isn't an Aussie) so she said she'd check it out.
This is an Ibizan Hound, a sight hound related to the greyhound or whippet. They originated on a Spanish island called Ibiza and date back centuries, maybe all the way back to the Egyptian pharoahs. They were bred to hunt smaller animals.
This is a picture of a Beezer, as Ibizan Hounds are lovingly called, without the clothes on. Look at those long legs! They are very agile and fast. And we hear they are excellent counter surfers since they can jump so high. Do you suppose they could teach us that skill?
They are red and white and can have either a smooth coat or a wire coat. Beezers are a bit reserved with people they don't know and a bit protective of their territory, kind of like us Aussies. But they are known as clowns and love to entertain their people.
Ibizan hounds have a strong prey drive so rabbits and other small pets might not be a real good idea as other family members. In addition to hunting, these guys are very good at coursing, agility and tracking.
Do you think they like cattle like us?
Hope you all have a Happy and Safe Fourth of July! Keep those pups safe!
One day, although it may still be a few years, she will see GBGV's at dog shows. We are over 200 now in the US so we are getting closer towards being full AKC. Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see the new breeds they add each year. I hope it's not long for approval. Have a great 4th!
DeleteCool breed profile. Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July! The Ibizan Hound definitely looks fast with those long legs!
ReplyDeleteIbizan Hounds are such cool dogs. They're a primitive breed and you don't see many of them around. They are built like fast cars, or supermodels - long legs, long torsos. Happy July 4th!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July! I love Ibizans and the other podencos so much! They are really neat dogs!
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty cool dogs!
