Monday Mischief, Aussie Style



We have this routine on the mornings after my husband has worked late.  We have "the wake up crew"!

The dogs look forward to it every morning.  When it is time for my husband to get up, I tell them"It's time to get Dad up".  As I get his coffee (yes, he's a little spoiled), they wait anxiously for us to go get him up.




When I open the door, it all happens pretty quickly.  They swarm the bed and work on waking up Dad.  It works pretty much every time. I do warn him in advance that we are coming by knocking on the door and saying "I have your coffee and the wake up crew!".

Of course, I often wonder if the end result they are seeking is the same one I am seeking.  While I am trying to get Dad up, I think they are trying to take his spot since it's all nice and warm.  Either way, it's pretty funny and one of the quirky things that happen around here.

Showdog Saturday, Aussie Style, Pugs


Soooooo, pugs are adorable!  


AKC says they are the 32nd most favorite breed of dogs. I'm not sure I understand that because it seems like everyone knows someone who has a pug.  And you see them in all kinds of funny videos, pictures, memes, etc.  Who hasn't seen the Doritos ads?






Since pugs are so popular, people are pretty familiar with their square little bodies, curly tails and squishy faces.  But how about some info that isn't as well known? I started searching Google, because where else do you go for quick info?




I found out

1) Pugs are one of the oldest breeds, tracing back to 400 B.C.

2) Pekingese and Cavalier Spaniels as well as other breeds trace back to Pugs

3) They have an oriental origin and were carried from China to Europe in the 16th century

4) Napoleon's wife, Josephine, used her pug, Fortune, to carry secret messages to her husband and family while she was in prison

5) Bred to be companions and crave closeness to their humans




6) Pugs are eager to please and clowns at heart

7) Pugs adapt easily so they are great with kids

8) They don't need alot of exercise so they are good for apartment living or first time dog owners

9) Pugs usually have a great appetite and are prone to obesity.

10) Pugs are brachycephalic, which means they have a broad, short skull.  This means that they have a more difficult time cooling off than other dogs so care needs to be taken to keep them cool.




Interesting stuff!

People who love pugs are very enthusiastic about their dogs.  I think pugs are pretty darn popular!

52 Snapshot Challenge, Week 35 Sleepy


The Things.

These sisters are together alot!  I thought it would be fitting for the theme "sleepy".  In this shot, they have the best spot in the house; on the bed, in the sun, together. 

Picture is a little blurry, but I have to shoot quickly with what I have close by.  If they see me moving, they all get up and follow me  (I generally have my own little parade as I go room to room).

Throwback Thursday, Aussie Style, and Rainbow Remembrance Day


I'm recycling this picture of Rocket.  I didn't take alot of photos back then so I don't have very many good ones.  

Today is Throwback Thursday for us at Aussies in Charge.  Reading some of the recent posts reminds me of how resilient this girl was. And accident prone.

Rocket was run over by a truck on our place 3 TIMES!!!!!  Yes, that's right.  3  SEPARATE TIMES!!!!  

She would hang out outside with Dad and our son and Dad's dad.  She'd get comfy in the shade of the truck and fall asleep.  None of the guys would think to look for her and when they moved the truck, she'd be in the way (much discussion with said guys, but that's another story).

We took her in to the vet and they x-rayed her.  Usually, she was just sore with  no major injury (lucky). 

One time, she had a fracture through her pelvic bone, visible on x-ray. The vet said she would be ok but would be very sore and not want to move much for a while.  Well, this girl was bouncing around as if nothing was wrong the very next day.  

After these incidents, as well as many others (watch for future posts), she suffered a good deal of arthritis.  But she always wanted to come out and do her job, even as she approached her fourteenth birthday.
